HAVANA /TASS/ - Arriving at the port of Havana A group of Russian naval ships will pay an official visit on June 12, the Cuban armed forces said in a statement. "This visit is based on the historical friendly relations between Cuba and Russia and is strictly in accordance with international rules," the Cuban Defense Ministry pointed out.
"From June 12 to 17, 2024, an official visit of a group of four ships of the Russian Navy will take place in the port of Havana," the statement said. The group consists of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, the nuclear submarine Kazan, the tanker Akademik Pashin and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker.
"This visit is based on the historical friendly relations between Cuba and Russia and is strictly in accordance with international rules," the Cuban Ministry of Defence stressed. "None of the ships have nuclear weapons on board, so their docking in our country does not pose a threat to the region."
"During their stay, the Russian sailors will follow a programme of activities including courtesy visits by the Cuban Navy Commander and the Governor of Havana. They will also visit places of historical and cultural significance," the Cuban military said.
"Upon arrival in Havana harbour, 21 salvos will be fired from one of the ships. The artillery battery of the Revolutionary Armed Forces at the San Carlos de la Cabana fortress will respond with a salute," the Ministry of Defence announced.
