The United States will not tolerate Iran's destructive and destabilizing behavior and will impose sanctions on the international network that funnels illicit revenue to the Iranian military.
This network facilitated the shipment of millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the People's Republic of China (PRC). The oil was shipped on behalf of Iran's Armed Forces General Staff (AFGS) and its front company, the sanctioned Sepehr Energy Jahan Nama Pars (Sepehr Energy). The action involves entities and persons in various jurisdictions, including the PRC, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as several vessels.
In addition, the United States is targeting shadow fleet vessels and management companies that have transported Iranian oil, helping Iran support destabilizing activities in the region.
We will disrupt the illicit financial flows that fund Iran's armed forces and terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. We will use all the tools at our disposal to hold the regime to account for its destabilising activities and its pursuit of nuclear weapons that threaten the civilised world.
These measures are taken pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, as amended, the anti-terrorism sanctions authority, and Executive Order 13902, which gives the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, the authority to designate and impose sanctions on key sectors of Iran's economy.
