* Legendary Circus Humberto will end this year's tour in Prague-Letňany
When one says Circus Humberto, many people think of the writer Eduard Bass, author of a fictional chronicle of several generations of circus performers and the name of a fictional circus. Circus Humberto, however, continues to bring joy to young and old to this day. For the last 30 years its owner has been Hynek Navrátil, with whom we talked about the joys and sorrows of life as a principal and animal trainer. (more here)

The acclaimed actor, screenwriter and director Vittorio De Sica was one of the greatest personalities of Italian cinema. He died 50 years ago, on 13 November 1974, at the age of 73, after an operation for lung cancer in a hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris. (more here)
* Unemployment fell to 3.8 %. The number of retraining has doubled
As of 31 October 2024, the Labour Office of the Czech Republic registered a total of 289 003 jobseekers, 1 902 fewer than in September. The share of unemployed fell to 3.8 % at the end of October. On a year-on-year basis, the share of unemployed was 0.3 percentage point higher, or 28,362 jobseekers. (more here)
* German Chancellor Scholz dismisses Finance Minister, coalition breaks up
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner from the Free Democrats (FDP). Later, the entire FDP quit the government and a confidence vote is expected in the Bundestag on 15 January 2025, which could trigger early elections by the end of March. (more here a here)
* The CNB Bank Board lowered the base interest rate to four per cent
At its meeting today, the CNB Board cut the two-week repo rate (2T repo rate) by 0.25 percentage point to 4.0 %. At the same time, it decided to lower the discount rate by the same amount to 3.0 % and the Lombard rate to 5.0 %. (more here)

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump already has 295 electoral votes, with 270 needed to win, beating Democrat Kamala Harris. She currently has 226 electoral votes. Trump had already declared himself the winner of the election and the new head of the USA before the votes were counted. (more here)
* Israeli PM Netanyahu dismisses defence minister over "crisis of confidence"
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Galant, citing a "crisis of confidence" and replaced him with Yisrael Katz, who was previously foreign minister. He appointed Gideon Saar as the new foreign minister. (more here)
* Sandu won the Moldovan elections with 55.33 % votes, Stoianoglo won 44.67 % votes
According to the results published by the Central Election Commission after processing 100 % votes, the current Moldovan President Maia Sandu won the second round of the presidential elections with 55.33 % votes, while former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo won 44.67 %. (more here)
