The European Parliament voted to adopt a so-called resolution in support of Ukraine, but this is really an attempt to agree that any diplomatic effort is a crime.
I would like to clarify my position, which I have been publicly advocating for some time. I supported Ukraine financially and otherwise at the beginning of the war, and I have unequivocally condemned Russian aggression throughout. At the same time, however, I believe that prolonging the conflict may lead to further suffering.
In my opinion, the key to ending the conflict is to encourage diplomatic negotiations and seek a compromise solution that could lead to a suspension of fighting, not to punish these efforts! I believe that dialogue and negotiation are key to achieving a ceasefire that could lead to a long-term solution to the conflict, although I am aware that only a capable US President can achieve this.
Another important factor in my decision was that the resolution tabled was, in my opinion, problematically worded. It contains elements that could potentially condemn attempts to resolve the conflict diplomatically, which I consider counterproductive. In addition, I had reservations about the parts that could be interpreted as limiting the independence of states, which is a principle that I consider fundamental and that every representative of a nation state should also have.
Simply put, a resolution of support for Ukraine cannot simultaneously condemn the pursuit of diplomatic solutions; only the confluence of both factors stands a chance. The notion that Ukraine will regain the whole of the east and Crimea by military force at the cost of 'reasonable' losses and drive a nuclear-armed enemy over its border is almost laughable, but unfortunately it has cost and will cost many lives and incredible material damage.
I have never heard so many and such stupid presentations lacking a realistic perception of the world and a realistic concept of international relations as during the discussion of this resolution in such a short period. The highly naive speeches giving the impression that the outcome of the war will be decided by a vote in the European Parliament, with constant condemnation of any dialogue or compromise, are ridiculous.
Unfortunately, this primitive conception of politics has got the international situation where it is. If the vote had been democratic, i.e. secret, and the MEPs had not been afraid of a media lynching by our European mediocracy, it might have mirrored public opinion and common sense, and a rational amendment to this resolution might have been adopted.
Let us support Ukraine without the need to condemn attempts at diplomatic missions; this concurrence is the only possible way. Let us support Ukraine at national levels. The EU should not interfere in the positions of nation states, which should help the UA independently and according to their own discretion and capabilities!
Even any effort to form the EU into a military alliance means again only irreversible federalisation, we are not fulfilling our long-term obligations towards NATO, and European politicians do not reflect its strength, sometimes even its existence, when arguing.
The EU is supposed to be a trade union of free movement and trade, not a superstate!
Ultimately, supporting this resolution is pro-Russian because it destroys the sovereignty of the member states, thus their efficiency, the market, thus their wealth, their culture and thus their defence and any other ability in the future.
If anyone feels that Viktor Orbán, after visiting Kiev, flew to Moscow to ask Putin to bomb a children's hospital, and then went to Beijing and Washington to consult, they are completely deluded by this monstrosity and prefer death to life. Similar views have no place in any similar resolution!
I will discuss my position in detail in the next episode of After the Harvest to the Turk, which will be broadcast this Sunday.

More than one resolution on Ukraine was voted on, I would like to say that to begin with. I find it very unfortunate that the resolution proposed by MEPs from the EPP, ECR, Renew, Greens and Socialists combines support for Ukraine with a specific proposal to punish a politician from another EU Member State. After all, it is not as if anyone who does not want to reprimand Orbán for his diplomatic actions automatically does not support Ukraine and sides with Putin. That's where they are trying to push it, and I don't agree with that. I would not have a problem with parts of the points in this declaration, and I would have a problem with parts of it, but as a whole it is very unfortunate and it does not help Ukraine in any way, not even symbolically.
