Václav Klaus' statement on the assassination of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico

I am deeply shocked and appalled by the news of the assassination of Slovak Prime Minister Fico. I have always considered him a friend and a key person for the future of Slovakia.

Now is the time to express the hope and wish that his life will be saved.

It is too early to judge, but there is no doubt that what happened in Handlová is the result of the escalating atmosphere in society, the political hatred and hostility that we unfortunately feel here.
