BEIRUT, June 26. Syrian leader Bashar Assad has praised a peace proposal put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin to settle the conflict in Ukraine.
Assad made the remarks while receiving the Russian president's special envoy for the Syrian settlement, Alexander Lavrentyev, and his delegation in Damascus.
"The peace initiative put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin represents a real basis for a peaceful settlement between the two countries," Assad was quoted as saying by his office.
"The fact that the West and Ukraine have rejected this Russian initiative shows their absolute responsibility for the bloodshed," the Syrian leader further said.
