PRAGUE - Today's Teachers' Day, which traditionally falls on 28 March - the day of Jan Ámos Komenský's birth - will offer not only a symbolic commemoration of the legacy of the famous Czech educator, but also a concrete celebration and recognition of the work of today's teachers. The 32nd year of the prestigious Golden Amos survey, which recognises the most popular teachers as voted by pupils and students, will culminate in Prague.
Six exceptional educators - four women and two men - have advanced to this year's finals, nominated on the basis of powerful stories, inspiring approaches to teaching and deep relationships with their students. The grand finale of the competition will take place in the presence of an expert jury and the public and promises to be an emotional moment in which the Czech Republic's favourite teacher for 2025 will be chosen.
The Teachers' Day celebrations will also include a festive meeting at the J. A. Comenius Pedagogical Museum in Prague. The event will be attended by Education Minister Mikuláš Bek (STAN) and State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports Ondřej Andrys. The programme will offer not only a reminder of the historical legacy of Comenius as a "teacher of nations", but also a reflection on current challenges and future directions of Czech education.
Teachers' Day is an important date in the Czech Republic when the public and institutions reflect on the key role of teachers in society. Their daily work - often carried out with great personal commitment - is one of the pillars of the development of education, critical thinking and civic values.
The Golden Amos award attracts media and public attention and has long promoted a positive image of the teaching profession. In past years, the winners of the survey have become an inspiration to other teachers across the country and have often been invited to participate in educational reforms or debates about the future of teaching.
