China has seen significant growth in the culture and tourism market, with several sectors achieving record results during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, which ended on Tuesday.
During the holidays, 501 million domestic trips were recorded, an increase of 5.9 % over the previous year. Tourist spending during the period reached a record high of more than 677 billion yuan ($92.6 billion), an increase of 7 % year-on-year.
The 2025 Spring Festival was the first celebration since the holiday's inclusion on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List, leading to a deeper exploration of its cultural significance across the country. Different regions held traditional events such as temple festivals, lion dances, dragon dances and Venetian lanterns, which attracted large crowds of both locals and tourists.
Cultural performances during the holiday were as lively as they were diverse, with traditional performances such as opera and folk art gaining huge popularity.
Visiting museums has become a popular activity, with institutions such as the Palace Museum, Shaanxi History Museum and Sanxingdui Museum experiencing high attendance. Discovering unique exhibitions has become a popular way for people to celebrate Chinese New Year.
