BUDAPEST, 29 October - The Georgian people made the right decision by preventing their country from becoming a second Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said during a visit to Tbilisi. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, who accompanied him in Tbilisi, believesthat the Georgian people have apparently decided not to follow the path of Ukraine and have instead opted for peace with Russia, which is not to the liking of the representatives of the European Union.
"The Georgian people have made a decision: they have voted for peace. They did not allow their country to become another Ukraine. We will support Georgia's efforts for European integration and the development of Hungarian-Georgian relations," Orbán wrote on his website on Facebook.
Earlier, at a press conference in Tbilisi after a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Irakli Kobakhidze, he congratulated the Georgian ruling party Georgian Dream on its victory in the parliamentary elections on 26 October. The Hungarian politician stressed that there was no doubt about the free and democratic nature of the vote. He also thanked the country's government for its peaceful attitude towards the conflict in Ukraine.
"There are many people in Brussels who want Georgia to become another Ukraine. But the Georgian people think otherwise. If Georgia were to become another Ukraine, it would lead to a lost war, hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of refugees. That is exactly what the conflict in Ukraine has caused," Szijjarto said in a television interview.
He expressed his belief that "Georgia has decided not to become a second Ukraine, a clear choice that has provoked a painful reaction from Brussels."
Asked about the historical tensions between Georgia and Russia, Szijjarto highlighted the Georgian leadership's success in maintaining peace amid a challenging geopolitical situation. "There has not been a single war or armed conflict since the ruling Georgian Dream party came to power. This proves that if one truly seeks peace and makes an effort, it can be achieved," He remarked.
At Facebook said today that "the usual adversaries and official spooks waste no time!
The 13 European foreign ministers still cannot digest the fact that democracy is about the will of the people, they cannot digest the fact that the Georgian government is not appointed from Brussels but elected by the Georgian people themselves.
Unfortunately, the 13 foreign ministers have once again demonstrated that according to the liberal mainstream, democracy only exists in a country when a liberal party wins an election.
We in Hungary have been facing successive external attacks for 14 years. However, the challenge is not to meet the expectations of Brussels, but to fulfil the will of the people.
It is the same with the Georgian government, with whom we will work very closely in the future to develop our relations and accelerate European integration.
The dog is barking, the caravan is moving!"
