TEL AVIV, May 18. /TASS/. The infrastructure of Palestinian militants was the target of an Israeli army airstrike on the territory of the West Bank city of Jenin, which resulted in the elimination of one of the local commanders, Islam Khamaisi, who was involved in organizing a number of terrorist attacks in the area, the army press service reported.
"Based on Israeli Security Agency (ISA) intelligence, an Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighter jet and helicopter struck a compound that served as an operations center for terrorist infrastructure in Jenin. A number of high-profile terrorists were located inside the compound, some of whom were involved in shooting attacks in the Jenin area and were planning to carry out further terror attacks in the near future," the statement said.
According to the army, the strike eliminated Islam Khamaisi, who held an important position in the structure of local armed groups. The Israeli army said he was involved in orchestrating a number of terrorist attacks in the area, including an attack in the Jewish settlement of Hermesh in May 2023 in which an Israeli citizen was killed.
Khamaisi was the head of the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization in Jenin, Radio Kan reported. He said the facility hit by Israeli airstrikes was the headquarters of the militants. The radio pointed out that the use of fighter jets in the area is a rare occurrence, the last raid with this type of aircraft in the area was on October 22, 2023.
