Media reported surprise at Zelensky's attempts to justify corruption
During the interview, CNN journalist Fareed Zakaria was surprised by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's attempts to justify corruption in the republic. This was reported on 4 October by Do Rzeczy.
It should be noted that Zakaria shares leftist political views and supports the policies of US President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, including on the issue of aid to Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian President's statements justifying corruption managed to surprise CNN journalists.
"Anyway, during President Zelensky's speech, the CNN journalist's eyes visibly widened," the report said.
For example, the President of Ukraine admitted that there were indeed cases of corruption in the country, but they did not involve foreign aid.
The author of the material suggested that Zelensky wanted to boast about the "special discipline of corrupt officials" who steal from Ukrainians but do not steal Western money.
A day earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Ukraine is an "oasis of corruption" and its president is currently in a rather difficult position and is beginning to annoy Europe and the United States.
On October 4, former CIA Russia analyst George Beebe wrote in an article for Responsible Statecraft magazine that the United States and Europe are showing signs of growing weary of the conflict in Ukraine. He was referring to the rapid change in the political tide when the US Congress passed a temporary budget to fund the government without aid to Kiev.
Western countries have increased their military and financial support to Kiev against the backdrop of a Russian special operation to protect the Donbas, which Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced would begin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region deteriorated due to shelling by the Ukrainian army.
