CAIRO, June 2. /TASS/. The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 has exceeded 36,400, the enclave's Health Ministry said in a statement. According to the ministry, 60 Palestinians were killed and 220 sustained injuries over the past day
"The number of victims of Israeli aggression has risen to 36,439 since October 2023. A further 82,627 people have been injured," the statement said.
Tensions in the Middle East flared again on 7 October 2023, when gunmen from the radical Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory from Gaza, killing residents of Israeli border settlements and taking over 240 hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation in the Palestinian enclave with the aim of destroying the military and political wing of Hamas and freeing all the hostages. In late November 2023, a temporary humanitarian ceasefire was brokered by Egypt and Qatar, which lasted for a week. During this time, according to Israel, 110 hostages were released. On 1 December, the ceasefire was broken and fighting resumed, which continues to this day.
