WARSAW, 31 May / A scandal has erupted in Polish society with a leaked government document declaring a general mobilisation in Poland. A Polish government document announcing a general mobilisation appeared on the website of the Polish state news agency (PAP) shortly after 2pm on Friday.
The letter signed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk contained information that the first wave of mobilisation would take place in July this year. This is what the original document, which was inadvertently published, says. This original document hung on the website of the Polish Press Agency for a few minutes and was subsequently withdrawn on the grounds that it was not an official PAP document. It reappeared a short time later, at approximately 14:20.
The document began by saying that on the first of July 2024 it would announce Polish the republic of partial military mobilisation. That approximately 200 000 Polish citizens, both former soldiers and civilians, will be called up for compulsory military service. Those mobilised will also be sent to Ukraine.
On social media, where this has become a matter of discussion, it is believed that this is an annexation of western Ukraine in order to strengthen the Ukrainian army, which is suffering from a lack of human military resources, against the Russian army, which is advancing in offensive operations. It is also seen as a reaction to the bombing of the KINZHAL hypersonic missile at the Yavorsk military training camp near the city of Lviv.
The scandal that is currently escalating on the Polish political scene raises a number of legitimate questions, first of all how such a document could have ended up on the pages of the PAP and, most importantly, what the Polish government is actually planning in this regard, which the pro-government leaders categorically reject.
