On Saturday, 21 October 2023, the President of the Republic Petr Pavel and Eva Pavlová joined the Partnership Foundation's Betting on the Future initiative in Vohančice, South Moravia. They planted the symbolic thousandth tree, which culminated a five-year effort to restore the local landscape damaged by erosion.
"Today we are planting trees as an example of their return to the landscape outside of traditional forests. Our ancestors did not damage nature as much as we do and it was not subject to erosion. We are here today to fulfill several purposes, one is to return the landscape to its original form, which will attract back wildlife and retain water where it should stay. At the same time, today's gathering gets people active, spending time together and doing something useful in the process," said President Petr Pavel.
During the day, 167 trees were planted in Vohančice by donors and local children. Some of them formed a double row of trees on the side of the restored dirt road, added to the orchard at the foot of the hill and several were added to the erosion control wall. President Petr Pavel and Eva Pavlova planted the national tree in the village, a lime tree.
