PRAGUE - At the end of last week, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel held talks with the Governor of the Czech National Bank, Mr Aleš Michl. In addition to discussing the CNB's monetary policy and the current economic situation, the President informed the Governor of his decision to appoint Jakub Seidler to the CNB Bank Board.
The appointment will take place on 1 December 2024, when the term of office of the current CNB Bank Board member expires.
Jakub Seidler (* 3 September 1983) graduated in economics from the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University in Prague, where he also received his Ph.D. He started his career in 2008 at the Czech National Bank, where he worked for six years in various professional positions in the Financial Stability, Research and Monetary Departments. Later, as Head of the Macroprudential Policy Department, he was mainly responsible for conducting banking sector stress tests and financial stability analysis. During his time at the Central Bank, he attended a number of courses on econometrics, financial stability and monetary policy at international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the ECB and the Bank of England.
From 2014 to 2021, he worked as ING Bank's Chief Economist for the Czech Republic, where he was responsible for macroeconomic analysis and forecasts for the Czech economy, financial market developments and monetary and fiscal policy outlooks. In 2018, he was appointed by the Czech government as a member of the Committee for Budget Forecasts assessing the credibility of the Ministry of Finance's macroeconomic forecasts. From mid-2021 to the present, he has been the Chief Economist of the Czech Banking Association, where he provides expert economic and financial analysis or the production of regular macroeconomic forecasts.
Jakub Seidler is a recognized expert, regularly commenting in the media on developments in the domestic economy, especially monetary policy, the exchange rate of the koruna, interest rates, inflation and the credit market.
