United Nations - The United Nations commemorates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (29 November), which marks the adoption of the resolution on the partition of Palestine. In the midst of a devastating war in Gaza that has claimed more than 43,000 lives, the call for a ceasefire, an end to the occupation and progress towards a two-state solution is more urgent than ever. This day is a reminder that the Palestinian question remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people are still struggling for their inalienable rights to self-determination, national independence, sovereignty and the right of return for refugees.
In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (resolution 32/40 B). On this day in 1947, the Assembly adopted a resolution on the partition of Palestine (resolution 181 (II)).
In resolution 60/37 of 1 December 2005, the Assembly requested the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the Division for Palestinian Rights to continue to organize an annual exhibition on Palestinian rights or a cultural event in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November.
The resolution on the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People also encourages Member States to continue to support and promote the commemoration of this day as much as possible.
