WASHINGTON, July 19. The United States may stop providing aid to Ukraine in the future, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a fireside chat at the Aspen Security Forum 2024.
"Each US administration is, of course, free to set its own policy. We cannot block the future," America's top diplomat responded to a question about whether Washington will continue to honour its commitments to Ukraine if Donald Trump is re-elected president.
However, Blinken recalled the security agreement that the US and Ukraine recently concluded.
"If we don't comply with it now, I suppose it's possible. But fortunately we have 20 other Western countries that have similar agreements with Kiev. And we are heading towards more than 30 that will do the same. These are long-term commitments to Ukraine," Blinken said.
Former US President Donald Trump officially accepted the Republican Party's presidential nomination on 18 July at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The presidential election will be held in the United States on 5 November.
