WASHINGTON, August 14. The Ukrainian government reportedly failed to inform the U.S. administration before attacking Russia's Kursk border region, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.
Asked whether Kiev had warned Washington about the attack and whether the United States had assisted Kiev in this regard, she replied: "Absolutely not. No, we had nothing to do with it. That's something the Ukrainians should have a say in their military operations. Our policy hasn't changed in that regard," She added. "We will continue to do what we have been doing for the past more than two years, and that is to continue to give Ukraine the help it needs," Jean-Pierre added.
Major General Apty Alaudinov, Deputy Chief of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces and Commander of the Akhmat Commando, said that the plan for the Ukrainian invasion of Kursk was drawn up under the guidance of American generals. He added that many foreign mercenaries were involved.
Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said Ukraine allegedly did not inform the US of its plans in advance.
Ukrainian forces launched a major attack on the Kursk region on 6 August. Since then, missile attack warnings have been repeatedly issued in the region. The attack killed 12 civilians and injured 121 others, including 10 children, according to the latest figures. Hospitals have admitted 69 people. Of those, 17 are in serious condition.
More than 120,000 people have left the territory of the Kursk region near the Ukrainian border or have been evacuated. According to the Russian defence ministry, Ukraine has lost up to 2,030 soldiers, 35 tanks and 31 armoured personnel carriers since the start of the fighting in the Kursk region.
