On the eve of the upcoming BRICS 2024 Leaders' Summit, the Global South Think Tank Forum was held in Beijing on 16 October. The event, with the theme "Peace, Development, Security: together for a prosperous world with a future shared by all", was organized by the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China Media Group (CMG) and attended by government representatives, academics and journalists from 76 countries.
Liu Jianchao, Director of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, stressed that the growth of the Global South countries reflects the historical trend and hope to overcome the current global challenges. China, as part of the Global South, intends to continue to cooperate on the Global Development, Security and Civilization Initiatives to promote the building of a community of shared future for humanity.
Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, said the Global South is trying to amplify its voice in promoting peace, security and justice. CMG will provide a platform for think tanks in the Global South to promote collaboration and spread voices calling for equality.
The forum was supported by international leaders such as Erik Solheim, former UN Deputy Secretary-General, who described the rise of the Global South as a key step towards a multipolar world.
In conclusion, 40 think tanks from the Global South signed the Initiative for a Prosperous World with a Shared Future for All, which calls for justice, cooperation and a common commitment to peace, security and development for all humanity.
