PRAGUE - (www.ods.cz) On Tuesday, 9 July, deputies began another week of meetings at the 108th ordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies. On the agenda of the ordinary session of deputies will be, for example, a bill on housing support, the appointment of members of the commission of inquiry into last year's shooting at the Faculty of Arts and the dismissal of Lubomir Veselý from the Council of Czech Television. During this week, MPs will also hold two extraordinary sessions - on Wednesday on amendments to the laws on audiovisual and excise duties and on Thursday on a major media amendment, which, in addition to supporting the public media, clearly specifies some of its functions.
"I consider the Divorce Amendment to be the first step towards a friendly and effective family justice system. If divorce can no longer be prevented in some cases, it is necessary to have effective tools to lend a helping hand to these families in crisis. And, above all, to ensure that divorce is handled in such a way that the family continues to function and be together. At the same time, the amendment abolishes many of the legal elements that prove outdated or undignified in court. With today's amendment, we are fulfilling the Government's programme statement and thereby speeding up, simplifying and comprehensively streamlining the divorce process." said Eva Decroix, 1st Vice-Chair of the ODS parliamentary club.
"We are introducing an amicable divorce because it has been shown to reduce the judicial burden, but it also leads to voluntary compliance with post-divorce agreements and less trauma - especially for children. We allow for the merger of custody and divorce proceedings. We support parents who are raising children on their own. We set a higher interest rate on child support, but also an assignment of the child support debt, which allows parents to have the child support paid to the single parent by a third party who will then collect it from the obligor. At the same time, I am very pleased that there is also agreement on the reintroduction of appeals in family cases, which will unify case law in this area, a long-standing shortcoming of family justice," Decroix added.
"Tomorrow at eleven o'clock there is an item firmly scheduled entitled motion to remove Lubomír Veselý from his position as a member of the Czech Television Council. Mr Veselý was elected a member of the CT Council in May 2020 and in the last four years he has been the author of a number of incorrect, offensive and often vulgar statements, which he has directed particularly against women working in the cultural environment, but also against female journalists. He has seriously undermined the dignity of his position as a member of the Council of the Czech Television and threatened the reputation of Czech Television itself. On Thursday morning, we will be debating the so-called 'great media amendment'. The public service media are an important part of the democratic and free order of the country, so it is absolutely crucial that we ensure their sustainable funding. Television fees have not been increased for 16 years, radio fees for 19 years. In that time, the value of the fee has been halved. I am very pleased that we have also managed to agree that the fees will be indexed and that this will maintain sustainability." said the chairman of the TOP 09 parliamentary club Jan Jakob.
