WASHINGTON, July 22. U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. presidential nomination in the November election.
"I am honored by the President's endorsement and it is my intention to get this nomination and win," said in a statement issued by the press service of US President Joe Biden's campaign staff after he announced his decision not to seek re-election and to endorse Harris as a potential Democratic presidential candidate.
Earlier on Sunday, Biden announced his decision not to seek re-election and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee for US president. According to Biden's statement, he plans to address the nation about his decision.
"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party - and unite our nation - to defeat (Republican) Donald Trump and his extreme agenda, Project 2025," she promised. "There are 107 days to go until Election Day. We will fight together. And together we will win."
The presidential election will be held in the United States on 5 November. Biden was to remain at the head of the Democratic ticket. His official nomination is expected to take place at the Democratic Party's national convention in Chicago, Illinois, on 19-22 August. However, following his fiasco in a televised pre-election debate with Republican Donald Trump on 27 June, calls have intensified, particularly from Democrats, for the incumbent to withdraw from the contest.
