This morning in Brussels, President von der Leyen met with the US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, General Keith Kellogg.
The President underlined the crucial role of the EU in ensuring the financial stability and defence of Ukraine, which has pledged a total of €135 billion (approximately $145 billion) - more than any other ally. This includes USD 52 billion in military aid, matching US contributions.
It outlined European plans to increase production and defence spending, thereby strengthening European and Ukrainian military capabilities.
President von der Leyen stressed that the EU is bearing its full share of military assistance to Ukraine and is ready to do even more.
It reaffirmed the EU's commitment to a just and lasting peace and reiterated that any solution must respect Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and be backed by strong security guarantees. It also expressed the EU's willingness to work with the US to end the bloodshed and help secure the just and lasting peace that Ukraine and its people rightly deserve.
As the President has made clear: now is the decisive moment.
