The Pirates have been part of the leadership of the South Moravian Region for 4 years. During that time they have managed to develop social services, support innovation and entrepreneurship in the region and increase funding for agriculture and landscape protection. They are entering the election campaign with the slogan "Challenge accepted" and presented their main priorities for the next years at Svoboda Square.
An ageing population and greater demands on social and health care, rural depopulation and housing affordability, or the further impact of climate change on our landscape and the further development and improvement of education in the county. South Moravia faces many challenges and the Pirates are ready to tackle them. "We have plans for the sustainable development of social services, where we do not forget about the training of future qualified staff and the use of modern and assistive technologies. Thanks to this, we can increase the number of people who will take care of citizens at home and expand the number of beds in residential services every year," says Pirate leader Jana Holomčík Leitnerová.
The number two candidate is Petr Vlasák, the vice-mayor of Breclav and an educator. "Modernization of schools, innovations in teaching and support for talents is the way to meet the challenges that await us. Students are the future of our region and the hope for further development, whether we are talking about business, healthcare or culture. South Moravia is the most innovative region in the Czech Republic. New ideas, future entrepreneurs and creative people are born here. Whether you are starting your own project or running a company, we will ensure that you have the conditions in which you can thrive," says Petr Vlasák.
More funding for soil and landscape protection, but also support for sustainable agriculture, which is also linked to support for projects to protect against flash and flash floods or other weather extremes. This was pushed by Lukáš Dubec, the deputy governor who is running for the Pirates in third place. "We want to continue to support landscape protection and water retention measures in the landscape. We will also focus on promoting green spaces in cities, both planting and caring for them. A major challenge will be to reduce the energy dependence of the region, municipalities, towns and residents. We will support community-based, shared energy to help households and communities reduce their dependence on energy giants. The county has an energy concept and as Pirates we are already promoting the reduction of energy consumption in buildings owned by the county," says Lukáš Dubec.
"Our goal is to make South Moravia a place that offers security, support, peace and a happy life. Whether it's mental health, affordable housing, healthy landscapes, quality education or good facilities for families and businesses. We want our region to be a place where it is good to live and work, where you do not have to worry about your future and where everyone can find help when they need it," concludes Jana Holomčík Leitnerová.
