This afternoon, we were received by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, along with representatives of Renaissance and its allies, in consultations with all political forces.
We shared with the President our party's conviction to ensure political stability in the country after the parliamentary elections.
The day after the elections, I acknowledged on your behalf the unprecedented situation we find ourselves in, and therefore the need to overcome party divisions and agree on a government and a plan for the future direction of the country.
I reiterated our three main priorities:
First, our desire to work with the parties in the Republican arc. In the absence of an absolute majority, this is the only way forward. This path is an opportunity for our country to modernise its political practices and to try out what is the norm in all our European neighbours. All negotiations must be based on political priorities. Our Action Pact for the French is the basis for work and discussion.
Second, our openness to working with a Prime Minister who is not a member of the central bloc parties. This sends a strong signal to the Republican left and right and demonstrates our commitment to finding cross-party solutions.
Thirdly I have informed the President of the Republic of our determination to vote no confidence in any government in which LFI is represented. We will never allow a party to enter government which is ambivalent about anti-Semitism and separatism and which is conciliatory to autocrats and enemies of Europe. I expect an equally strong position from the political forces to be adopted by the President of the Republic by Monday.
After these consultations, it will be up to the President of the Republic to draw conclusions on the viability of the government proposals submitted to him.
We remain ready to participate in the unification of the Republican forces. This unprecedented configuration means that in the coming days everyone must focus on what is essential: the future of the country, not the future of the parties. This has always been the purpose of our political engagement, and I know I can count on you to defend this conviction in your territories.
