Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, led a Politburo meeting on Monday to discuss new regulations on environmental inspections and a report on the fourth round of disciplinary inspections.
According to the conclusions of the meeting, the environmental inspections have produced positive results - they have made officials at all levels fulfil their political duties, solved several serious cases of environmental damage and responded to a number of problems complained about by citizens.
The meeting stressed the need to strengthen the Party's leadership in environmental inspections, continue to use inspections as an effective tool, and call local authorities and institutions to account in building a "Beautiful China".
It was further stated that it is necessary to have the courage to tackle difficult issues, expose and correct problems and improve the implementation of the Party leadership's decisions on ecological civilization.
In the area of disciplinary controls, the inspection teams have identified shortcomings in the Party and State institutions that need to be consistently corrected. The meeting identified 2025 as a key year for expanding inspections to all areas. Emphasis is to be placed on promoting the CPC's decisions and plans as a backbone for China's modernization.
