Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that he looked forward to an in-depth exchange of views with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on further strengthening Sino-Brazilian relations, aligning the two countries' development strategies and discussing international and regional issues of common concern.
Xi made the remarks in a written statement upon his arrival in Brazil for the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit and a state visit at the invitation of President Lula. He also extended his sincere greetings and best wishes to the Brazilian government and people.
Xi noted that he has visited Brazil four times and witnessed its development and changes over the past 30 years. Upon his return to this passionate country, he expressed his close relationship with Brazil.
"China and Brazil are friends of the same mind and good partners going forward hand in hand," Xi said. Although separated by an ocean, the two major developing countries from the eastern and western hemispheres are attracted to and resonate with each other from a distance, he added.
In recent years, the two countries have deepened political trust, achieved significant results in practical cooperation, developed rich cultural and people-to-people ties, and shown new vitality in traditional friendship, Xi stressed.
China and Brazil have also jointly contributed to promoting the just voice of the global South in the international arena and made significant contributions to promoting world peace and development, he further said.
With China and Brazil celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, relations between the two countries stand at an important historical crossroads of building on past achievements and moving forward, Xi said.
He expressed his belief that the visit would further strengthen the strategic trust between the two countries, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and open a new "golden 50 years" of Sino-Brazilian relations.
Xi also expressed his expectation of attending the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit and said he is ready to work with all parties to discuss development plans, jointly promote a just and orderly multipolar world, universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and promote a greater role for the G20 as a major platform for international economic cooperation.
Xi arrived in Brazil from Lima, where he attended the 31st APEC Leaders' Meeting and paid a state visit to Peru.
