Chinese President and General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over a meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) leadership on January 8, where working reports were submitted by the Party's leading groups in major state institutions, including the top legislature, the central government, the advisory body, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme Procuratorate.
The meeting highlighted that China faces a complex and changing development environment with challenging tasks over the next five years. It was affirmed that a key guarantee for the progress of China's modernisation is the use and further development of the Party leadership, which represents the country's greatest institutional strength.
Last year, the Party's leading groups at major state organs firmly upheld the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized leadership, and made significant progress in various areas. Special recognition was also given to the work of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat over the past year.
The year 2026 also marks the 105th anniversary of the Party's founding and the launch of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). Party leading groups have been urged to focus on the major economic and social development tasks of the period, join forces to make progress in various fields, and contribute to improving people's lives through concrete actions.
The CPC Central Committee Secretariat is to complete all high-level tasks, prioritize key initiatives such as improving intra-party regulations and institutions, and reduce unnecessary formality to reduce the administrative burden at the lower level.
