Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on Thursday morning, where he met with teachers, students and researchers. He was accompanied on the visit by Ho Yat Seng, executive director of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
The university, established after Macau returned to Chinese administration in 1999, has become the largest and most comprehensive university in the region. Xi Jinping was briefed on the development of two key state-run laboratories focusing on the quality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and lunar and planetary science.
The President described traditional Chinese medicine as "the jewel of Chinese civilization" and stressed the need to preserve, develop and promote it in the world. He also highlighted China's advances in lunar research and praised the university's scientific achievements, which are world-class.
Xi Jinping also visited the Data Science and Satellite Applications Center, where he monitored the real-time operation of the "Macao Science 1" satellite. This satellite was jointly developed by scientists from mainland China and Macao, and the President has already praised the involvement of the MUST team in this project in May 2023.
