The Beijing plenary meeting of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held on January 6 under the chairmanship of CPC General Secretary and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In his speech, Xi stressed the progress of the Party's self-renewal and its determination to continue its fierce fight against corruption.
The President described corruption as the biggest threat to the party and called for an unwavering fight at all levels, including prevention, investigation and improving control mechanisms. "Any indecision or hesitation could have disastrous consequences," he warned.
Si also stressed the need to strengthen education of Party members on discipline, establish long-term mechanisms to prevent corruption and severely punish both the recipients and providers of bribes.
Other top members of the Party leadership, including Li Qiang and Li Si, attended the meeting. The plenary session was organized through video broadcasts with the participation of regional and military representatives from across China.
