KIEV - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admits that Washington's attitude towards supporting Kiev may change after the upcoming US presidential election.
"That's why we have to prepare in advance," he said in an interview with ABC News. According to Zelensky, this is why the plan to resolve the conflict, which he intends to discuss with US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, is so important. Zelensky also said that his plan is aimed at ending the conflict quickly instead of prolonging it "for a year, two or three years." Meanwhile, a source close to Zelensky told ABC News that "the plan consists of five points and that its core includes specific numbers and amounts of military aid to Ukraine, as well as certain diplomatic and political steps." However, "the plan does not include any proposed concessions to Russia."
The US presidential election will take place on 5 November.
Peace initiatives Zelensky
Zelensky has previously stated that he has a plan to end the conflict. He noted that he would discuss the details with Biden, as some provisions depend on Washington's decision. Biden and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with Zelensky in Washington on September 26.
Kiev, meanwhile, has repeatedly rejected peace initiatives. The Russian authorities have repeatedly expressed their readiness to engage in talks with Ukraine to resolve the conflict. However, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out that the main obstacle to negotiations is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's decree banning talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which, along with Ukrainian initiatives, "reveals that Kiev is detached from reality".
The Kiev authorities have also rejected mediation initiatives by third countries, saying that they will enforce only the so-called Zelensky formula. In an earlier interview with the Brazilian news portal Metropoles, Zelensky criticised the plan put forward by Brazil and China to resolve the Ukrainian issue. He also claimed that he knew nothing about German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's "peace plan".
On the official Telegram channel of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, there is a message about a visit to the US state of Pennsylvania: Scranton, Pennsylvania. An artillery shell factory. Caliber 155. Now for our soldiers who defend not only our country, not only Ukraine. The factory will increase production. I began my visit to the United States by thanking all the employees of the plant and agreeing to expand cooperation between Pennsylvania and our Zaporozhye region. It is in such enterprises that it is felt that the democratic world can truly prevail. It is thanks to people like this in Ukraine, in America and in all our partner countries that we are working to ensure that lives are protected.
