On 14 March, China hosted talks in Beijing with representatives of Russia and Iran on the Iranian nuclear issue. According to an international poll by CGTN, participants from around the world see the initiative as an important step towards a political solution to the problem and appreciate the constructive role China is playing in the process.
As many as 87.6 % respondents identified the original JCPOA nuclear deal, concluded in 2015 between Iran and six world powers, as an important outcome of the diplomatic dialogue that should be preserved. At the same time, a majority (89.8 %) oppose unilateral sanctions, pressure and the threat of force, which they believe further exacerbate the situation.
According to 89.5 % respondents, political dialogue based on mutual respect is the only effective way to resolve the nuclear issue. As many as 90.6 % respondents call on all parties to refrain from steps leading to escalation of tensions and instead support diplomatic negotiations.
The survey also showed that 87.4 % respondents support respect for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the independent work of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Almost 90 % respondents support the establishment of a stable security architecture in the Middle East.
In light of these results, 87.8 % participants expressed appreciation for China's role in peace initiatives in the region and hoped that it would continue to actively contribute to global crisis resolution.
7,766 users from five language platforms participated in the CGTN survey over a 24-hour period.
