Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to peace and dialogue at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha in Munich on Saturday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Wang stressed Long-term friendships and strategic partnerships between China and Ukraine, which was established in 2011. He recalled that despite the global challenges China remains Ukraine's largest trading partner, demonstrating the potential for further cooperation.
In relation to the Ukrainian crisis Wang repeated China's firm stance in support of a peaceful solution based on the principles of the President Xi Jinpingwhich he described as objective and pragmatic. China, he said, will continue to play a constructive role in the political resolution of the conflict and encourage a just, lasting and binding peace agreement acceptable to all parties.
Sybiha rated it China's balanced approach to international issues and expressed Ukraine's readiness to deepen its strategic partnership with China. He also confirmed Ukraine's commitment to protect Chinese institutions and citizens.
Both sides agreed on the importance of peace negotiations and China through the initiative "Friends of Peace" continues to strive for international consensus to end the conflict.
