At a regular press conference on August 22, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China strongly opposes any country allowing the Dalai Lama to visit in any name, and strongly opposes government officials of any country meeting with the Dalai Lama in any form. China has already sent the United States a request for serious negotiations.
We call on the United States to fully understand the importance of the issues related to the Xizang Tibetan Autonomous Region and the anti-Chinese and separatist nature of the circle of people around the Dalai Lama, to uphold its commitments on issues related to the Tibetan Autonomous Region, to seriously respect China's core interests and concerns, to not allow the Dalai Lama to engage in political separatism activities in the United States, and to refrain from any form of contact with him.
