BEIJING - Responding to questions about the illegal entry of a Philippine ship into the waters near Xianbin Reef, Lin Jian pointed out that it should be reiterated that Xianbin Reef is part of China's Nansha Archipelago. On 25 August, despite China's strong opposition and repeated warnings, an official ship of the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources insisted on entering the waters near Xianbin Reef in China's Nansha Archipelago and deliberately rammed a Chinese Coast Guard ship. Responsibility for the collision between the two ships lies solely with the Philippines.
In accordance with domestic and international laws, the Chinese Coast Guard took the necessary measures to deal with the Philippine vessel and conducted professional, restrained and standardized operations on the spot. China will continue to take resolute and effective measures in accordance with the law to protect its territorial sovereignty, maritime rights and interests and the solemnity of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
