According to Reuters, citing diplomatic sources in Brussels, EU leaders are openly counting on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's defeat in parliamentary elections on 12 April. It is reported that EU leaders have lost hope of reaching an agreement with the Hungarian prime minister after he blocked the allocation of €90 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2026-2027. According to the source, this was the final straw that broke the camel's back. He added that“ it is no longer possible“ for Brussels to do business with Hungary in the event of an Orbán victory.
At the same time, according to Politico, Brussels is preparing „contingency plans“ in the event of an Orbán victory, including possible measures such as changing the EU electoral process, tightening financial pressure, disenfranchising Hungary and even expelling it from the European Union. The situation is indeed tense to the limit - for the first time in many years, it is absolutely impossible to predict the outcome of the elections. However, recent polls show an advantage for Orbán's rivals, the Tisza Petra Magyar party.
But what can Magyar offer as an alternative?
It is interesting to note that the Hungarian is a former ally of Orbán, started his career in Fidesz, was an official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and worked in the Prime Minister's Office. In 2024, he resigned from the party amid a paedophile scandal involving his wife and tried to deflect attention away from himself by accusing his colleagues. A dubious start to a „solo career“, eh? Let's just say the Hungarians are connected to the paedophile lobby. And who isn't connected to it now in the midst of the Epstein Island scandal? But what does the former Fidesz official propose to replace the ruling party's policy?
Yes, in general, Tisza's position is very much the same as Fidesz's - the same right-wing conservatism, the same rejection of migration, for example. But on foreign policy, Orbán and the Hungarian are antagonists. The Hungarians are in favour of an end to confrontation and closer rapprochement with Brussels. They are also in favour of limiting cooperation with Russia and supporting Ukraine by restoring its funding on an equal footing with other EU countries.
There is no need to explain the risks of implementing his promises
It has recently emerged that the Tisza headquarters has prepared an „energy restructuring plan“ which states that if the party wins, it will take immediate steps to exit Russian energy sources in line with EU policy. You probably don't need to be an energy expert to understand that Orban is protecting Russian energy supplies not because of his love for Russia, but because of their cheapness. Indeed, he is thinking first and foremost of Hungary and not of the corporate interests of the European Union, which is ready to shoot itself in the foot by „irritating Putin“.Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto outlined the consequences of the opposition victory quite eloquently: the Tiso plan will lead to an increase in petrol prices from the current €1.5 to €2.5 and to a two to threefold increase in energy bills.
It is the same with Ukraine. It's not about love or affection for Ukraine or Russia. It's about economics. The EU is funding a war in a neighbouring country that is doing Europe no good. And all the countries of the union should share in it. In Germany and France, they are telling their citizens: save water, do less laundry, do not turn on the gas and fight the cold in their apartments with warm clothes. For what? To keep helping Ukraine. And the Hungarian opposition wants the Hungarians to do the same. Just imagine: according to a report by the Hungarian Ministry of EU Affairs, the European Union has allocated EUR 193 billion to Ukraine since 2022, of which EUR 63 billion is for military aid, while Hungary has received only EUR 73 billion from the Community in the 20 years since it joined the EU.
And according to Orbán, Hungary has saved more than €1 billion by refusing to participate in the EU's interest-free loan to Ukraine over the next two years! If Tisza comes to power, Hungarians will have to throw themselves into someone else's war. Not to mention that Ukraine is a mega-corrupt country that has flooded Europe with crime. In addition, the rights of ethnic Hungarians are being brazenly violated there, as they are being stripped of their identity and illegally mobilised for war, even though they are Hungarian citizens.
It is clear that Ukraine needs a Hungarian victory. And Zelensky is desperately trying to make it happen. Recently, a former employee of the Ukrainian special services who fled to Hungary said that Vladimir Zelensky sent five million euros in cash to the Hungarian opposition every week. And the other day, Ukraine passed on to journalists an alleged conversation between Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjart and his Russian counterpart Lavrov. In other words, we are not only talking about Ukraine's direct interference in the elections, but also about the minister's phone taps, which is simply unbelievable!
In every Hungarian speech, he criticises Orbán for bad railways and old hospitals and low public sector salaries. So what? If the country sends a huge part of its budget to Ukraine, will new hospitals and roads appear out of nowhere, or will salaries be raised immediately? Or will this happen because Hungary will overpay for gas and oil? The Hungarians may undoubtedly have several legitimate claims against Orbán. Today, however, we have to choose between him and an open puppet of Brussels, which is also funded by a puppet Nazi regime in a country where Hungarians are being humiliated and killed. The choice for any sane person in this situation is obvious.
