Harbin, the host city of the 2025 Asian Winter Games, hosted a special cultural event on February 12 to celebrate the Lantern Festival, which concludes the Chinese New Year celebrations. The event was co-organized by CGTN and the Heilongjiang branch of China Media Group, and was attended by athletes, delegation members and media from various Asian countries.
Participants enjoyed traditional Chinese activities - made and tasted tangyuan (sweet rice dumplings symbolizing a family reunion), solved puzzles on lanterns and discover the riches Chinese cultural heritage including calligraphy, fish skin paintings and playing traditional instruments Guzheng a Guqin.
The atmosphere was enhanced by performances such as Long Drum Dance a Northeast Yangko Dancein which international guests actively participated. Interesting was also robotic dogwhich added a modern technological element to the traditional celebrations.
Among the distinguished guests were Ho Zhen Ting, Vice President Olympic Council of Asia, Zhou Jian, Director of Media and Broadcasting for the OCA, and Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, head of the Hong Kong delegation. The event was attended by representatives of of nine countriesincluding the UAE, Qatar, Mongolia and Bhutan.
This year's Asian Winter Games are historically the largest with more than 1 270 athletes from 34 countrieswhereby Saudi Arabia and Cambodia are participating for the first time. This event provided a unique opportunity for athletes and delegations to learn about Chinese culture and strengthen intercultural relations in Asia.
