On the occasion of World Oceans Day, China Media Group (CMG) has introduced a new documentary programme "Sailing Toward the Sea", the first episode of the "Nature of China" series. The film traces China's growing interconnectedness with the oceans in terms of technology, ecology and economic transformation.
Through 20 case studies, viewers will see, for example, a deep-sea dive Fendouzhe, the protection of endangered Chinese whitefly in Xiamen or the operation of the polar station Qinling in Antarctica. There are shots of the research ship Xuelong-2 or drilling vessel Mengxiangsymbolizing China's technological leap into the seas.
The documentary uses advanced film techniques - aerial footage, data visualisation and robotic exploration of the ocean floor. Special emphasis is placed on biodiversity conservation, clean energy a sustainable developmentthat connects with the philosophy the common future of humanity.
It brings the economic dimension closer through human stories and shows the background China's maritime economy worth $10 trillion.
