China's top political advisory body holds final session of annual meeting

BEIJING - The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, wrapped up its annual meeting on Monday, calling on political advisers to contribute to the great unity and solidarity and join forces to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through China's path to modernization.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The meeting approved a resolution on the report on the work of the Standing Committee of the CCP National Committee, a resolution on the report on the handling of the proposals of the political consultants since the previous annual meeting, a report on the consideration of new proposals, and a political resolution on the third session of the 14th meeting of the CCP National Committee.

Wang Huning, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, addressed the meeting.

In the past year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee), with Xi Jinping at its head, has united and led the whole Party and the nation to work hard and move forward courageously, successfully achieving the major goals of economic and social development and making new breakthroughs in China's modernization, Wang said in his speech.

He added that these achievements were highly appreciated by all the members of the CPPCC National Committee.

Wang urged political advisers to make further positive contributions to uniting hearts, building consensus and gathering wisdom and strength to advance China's modernization, and called on them to strengthen their capabilities for political consultation, democratic supervision and participation in and deliberation of state affairs.

He stressed the need to unwaveringly support the overall leadership of the CCP, saying that the CCP leadership is the fundamental guarantee that the Chinese people will develop and maintain strong cohesion and self-confidence.

Wang urged CPPCC members to fulfill their duties and responsibilities with a focus on advancing China's modernization, and stressed that policy advisors should put forward workable proposals to address major issues related to further deepening comprehensive reform, promoting quality development, safeguarding and improving people's living conditions, and maintaining social harmony and stability.

Wang said that as the broadest patriotic organization of the united front, the CCP should continue its role of strengthening the great unity of the Chinese people of all ethnic groups and the great unity of all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation at home and abroad.

Wang also urged the CPPCC to play a better role as a key channel of socialist consultative democracy and a specialized consultative institution.

Wang noted that the CPPCC serves as an institutional consultative platform to promote democracy, unity and cooperation, and to engage the people in deliberations on state affairs, and stressed the need to improve mechanisms that allow in-depth consultation and interaction, the full expression of views and the formation of broad consensus, and to strengthen coordination among various consultation channels.
