Pyongyang, Feb. 24 - The head of the Foreign Policy Office of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Foreign Ministry issued the following press statement on Feb. 23: "Illegal actions against the DPRK that lead to the imposition of sanctions will accelerate the DPRK's behavior to defend its sovereign right.
Recently, the US and its supporters held a confabulation in Washington called the meeting of the steering committee of the "Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team" (MSMT) and talked about strengthening the implementation of UN "sanctions resolutions" to deal with the DPRK's nuclear and missile "threats".
The "MSMT", created by states that commit only harmful acts and far from contributing to international peace and security, is nothing but an illegal, illegitimate and criminal ghost group in terms of its reason for existence and purpose.
We strongly caution that the anachronistic actions of hostile forces foolishly seeking to block the exercise of the DPRK's legitimate rights while calling it to account without justification, in violation of the accepted principles of international law, the core of which is respect for sovereignty and non-interference, may bring them serious consequences that they will find difficult to cope with.
The US should know that no matter how much it plays diplomatic tricks and blames its servants, it cannot renew the outdated sanctions mechanism against the DPRK, which has been driven to an unfortunate fate, and that the more it clings to the sanctions instruments, the more it will feel heavy and uncomfortable rather than the DPRK.
On this occasion, the DPRK again clarifies its position on the issue of sanctions. Sanctions relief through negotiations has long been a matter of no interest to the DPRK, which no longer has to submit to or avoid sanctions, nor is it on the DPRK's agenda.
The barbaric US sanctions have made the DPRK better understand how it can survive, sustain itself and strengthen itself despite the most difficult external circumstances. And they have become a decisive factor that has accelerated the building of a powerful force that no one can ignore in the face of anything else.
The DPRK is not heeding any sanctions. However, it will never condone any provocation by the US and its supporters to interfere with the legitimate sovereign rights of the DPRK under the pretext of applying sanctions, but will firmly counter them with decisive action.
Illegal actions by hostile forces against the DPRK and in support of sanctions will accelerate the DPRK's behavioural counter-action in defence of its sovereign rights, and those involved in these actions will have to pay a heavy price. -0-
