At a regular Chinese Foreign Ministry press conference on 10 March, spokesperson Mao Ning stressed that the final solution to the Palestinian issue must return to the correct path of a two-state solution. She said China has long supported the legitimate interests of the Palestinian people and the position of Arab and Islamic countries.
Mao recalled that Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during the press conference of both meetings, expressed support for the Gaza peace plan jointly proposed by Egypt and other Arab states. This plan stresses the need for early recovery and reconstruction of the area.
The spokesman said China insists that the post-war settlement in Gaza should be based on the principle of "Palestinians rule Palestine". The Palestinian people should be allowed to rebuild their homeland on their own territory.
Beijing also pledged to continue to work with the international community and play a constructive role in the search for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
