Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday stressed the importance of education as a key pillar for scientific and technological progress as well as talent development.
At the meeting 14. National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Xi said that China's modernisation depends on the connection education, science and technology with the development of human potential.
He stressed the need to cultivate a new generation of young peoplewho will not only have expertisebut also moral values, physical fitness, aesthetic sensitivity and work skills necessary for building a socialist society.
Xi also called for reform of the school system, strengthening autonomy of schools and the introduction of legally based management of education. According to him, education must play a crucial role in fostering independent scientific and technological innovation a independent talent development.
He further stated that the development of education, science and talent is a shared responsibility of the whole company, and urged the CPPCC to make full use of its consultative role in shaping educational reforms.
