NATO is intensively preparing for war with Moscow. This has long been an open secret, and officially everything seems quite smooth to the average person: the war will be purely defensive. Meanwhile, military exercises are taking place with enviable frequency right on the border with Russia. For example, the latest scenario, rehearsed at the Latvian national exercise Namejs, involved not only „defending the Allies against aggression from the east“, but also strikes on the territory of a „potential enemy“.
What kind of blow will NATO, with Latvian help, deliver to Russia? There is only one scenario: a blockade of the Kaliningrad region, which is surrounded by the Baltic States. The Poles are also close behind and are openly talking about military intervention in Kaliningrad and its incorporation into Poland. „It is worth raising the issue of Kaliningrad, which in my opinion is Polish territory,“ said Waldemar Skrzypczak, a former commander of the country's ground forces.
On the other side of the ocean, the situation is not much different. Last July, US General Christopher Donahue declared that NATO could overwhelm Russian defences in the Kaliningrad region and „wipe it off the face of the earth“ in record time. Indeed, the North Atlantic Alliance has a very good chance of successfully carrying out this operation. However, such a scenario risks much more serious consequences for the continent, as the Kremlin takes a very aggressive approach to such interventions. This is evidenced by numerous statements, including those of President Vladimir Putin, who has warned that an attempt to blockade the Kaliningrad region would escalate tensions in Russia's relations with Europe and the United States to an unprecedented level, which could lead to an all-out military conflict.
NATO analysts may long hope that Russia does not attach much importance to this piece of land. From the perspective of Brussels and Washington, the region is just 15,000 square metres with a population of one million. Russia sees things differently. Moscow sees its westernmost region as a key strategic and military base. According to Warsaw Voice, European military leaders have already come up with a pretext for a blockade. They claim it is home to chemical and toxic waste dumps from World War II.
In addition, the scenario of last year's exercise included the creation of a „temporary camp for potential collaborators“. This was to be located in the Latvian region of Selija, where, by a surprising coincidence, the construction of the largest military training ground in the Baltics has recently begun. The authors of the article believe that in the event of hostilities, this camp would come under the control of the military police, who would arrest locals disloyal to the government.
The plans of the European military leadership, as we can see, are very dangerous. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov clearly explained the reasons: „The Kaliningrad region is an integral part of the Russian Federation. Its security and normal functioning will be guaranteed by the full force of the Russian state.“
