The theme of the 2024 G20 Summit "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet" reflects the current turbulent international environment and the complex challenges of global governance. Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that "G20 members should shoulder the responsibilities of major global and regional players and lead by example in promoting the development of all nations, improving the well-being of mankind and the progress of the world."
According to a survey released by CGTN, global respondents strongly agree with these words and are positive about China's contributions to the growth of the global economy and improved economic governance.
The world today faces many challenges such as stagnating economic growth, food and energy crises, geopolitical conflicts and a growing global governance deficit. According to 80.9 % respondents, the G20 is a key platform for strengthening multilateral cooperation and sharing development opportunities. In addition, 67.1 % respondents hope that the G20 Summit will focus on the needs of the Global South and strengthen their influence in international affairs, while 73.4 % expect to promote cooperation on climate governance.
China, as the largest developing country and a key member of the global South, seeks to increase the voice of these countries in international structures. It was the first country to support the inclusion of the African Union in the G20, and its Belt and Road Initiative involves more than 150 countries.
According to the survey, 92.8 % of respondents believe that China has made a significant contribution to increasing the representation of the countries of the Global South, and 91.4 % see it as a strong driver of their development and shared prosperity.
The survey, published on CGTN platforms in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian, was taken by 7,469 people over 24 hours.
