MOSCOW, 8 April. Former Ukrainian commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhnyi has confirmed that a secret headquarters was set up in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2022 to help Western countries assist Kiev in planning military operations against Russia.
"There was a lot of talk about Wiesbaden last week. Indeed, the headquarters has become a secret weapon for us and our partners when it comes to planning operations and ensuring their execution," Zaluzhnyj wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia because of its ownership of Meta, which is described as extremist).
According to him, the coordination centre, originally set up at the US European Command headquarters in Stuttgart, was later moved to Wiesbaden. "The headquarters planned operations, ran war simulations and assessed the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces so that relevant information could be sent to Washington and European capitals." Zaluzhny added. He did not provide further details on the planning of the operations, including disagreements that arose between him and the Americans, particularly during the failed Ukrainian offensive in 2023.
The New York Times has previously reported that the United States was involved in the conflict in Ukraine much more deeply than Washington has admitted. According to the newspaper, the United States provided Kiev authorities with daily coordinates of Russian positions from its base in Wiesbaden. In addition, in 2022, the U.S. actually controlled and directed all strikes carried out with HIMARS multiple rocket launchers. That same year, the US Navy began sharing intelligence with Ukraine about attacks on Russian ships in the Black Sea, the paper added.
The New York Times pointed out that in the fall of 2022 and January 2024, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency actively coordinated the Kiev regime's activities regarding attacks on Crimea, and in 2024, the U.S. military began assisting Kiev in carrying out strikes on targets inside Russia.
