NEW YORK, April 11. Talks between the Iranian and US delegations in Islamabad are expected to take place in two formats, direct and indirect, CNN television reported, citing its sources.
The agenda is likely to be agreed by the US and Iran through representatives of Pakistan, who will act as a mediator, and then the parties will proceed to direct negotiations, the report said.
On 7 April, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with Iran. The parties have resolved almost all the contentious issues and Washington considers Tehran's 10-point proposal as a working basis for further negotiations, he said. The decision was made based on Iran's willingness to open the Strait of Hormuz, Trump noted.
The United States side is represented by Vice President James David Vance, President Trump's personal envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's wall broker and real estate entrepreneur Jared Kushner.
Today, Iranian officials will meet with U.S. officials in Islamabad, Pakistan: the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf; Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi; Secretary General of the National Security Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian; Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdolnasir Hemmati; and Advisors on Security, Political, Military, Economic and Legal Issues.
In return, Tehran agreed to end defensive attacks provided no strikes are launched against Iran. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is mediating the talks between the parties, invited them to Islamabad.
