The documentary "From the Great Wall to Machu Picchu", jointly produced by China and Peru, premiered in Lima, the capital of Peru, on Friday. The program was produced in cooperation with China Media Group (CMG), Peru's Ministry of Commerce and Tourism and the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP).
The documentary focuses on the exchanges between the two countries and depicts their cultural sites, specifically the Great Wall of China and the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.
CMG President Shen Haixiong said at the film's launch that he believes the documentary will help people from both countries understand each other better. In doing so, he quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping's words from an article published Thursday in Peruvian daily El Peruano, where he stressed that the friendship between the two countries "is rooted in the wisdom of our ancient civilizations" and "has become stronger thanks to the beneficial cooperation between China and Peru."
The documentary will be broadcast from Friday in seven languages: Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian and Quechua. A special social media page in Quechua was also launched at the event, making it the 81st language of the CMG. Quechua, the main indigenous language of the Andes, is widely spoken in Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia and was recognized as an official language in Peru in 1975.
