Damascus, SANA- The UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, denied reports of sending a UN mission to investigate or conduct inquiries in the Syrian coastal region.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, Abdelmoula said: "Contrary to what has been circulating on social media and in some international media, the UN has not sent any mission to investigate or conduct an inquiry in the Syrian coastal area."
He specified that such tasks can only be carried out with the permission of the UN Human Rights Council or the UN Security Council.
Abdelmoula added: "The UN's efforts on the ground remain focused on providing vital humanitarian assistance to those in urgent need, while ensuring the safety and security of UN staff, humanitarian partners and their families. The Organization operates in accordance with humanitarian principles and maintains neutrality, impartiality and independence in all its activities."
The UN representative stressed that the UN remains fully committed to responding to humanitarian needs in a transparent and accurate manner.
He called on all parties to rely on verified and credible information when reporting on their activities.
