At the APEC CEO 2024 Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for efforts to steer economic globalisation in the right direction and promote an inclusive form of globalisation that benefits different countries and communities. In his written speech, he stressed that economic globalization is an inevitable requirement of rising productivity and a result of advances in science and technology.
Xi warned that the contemporary world is facing a new period of turbulence and change. Economic globalisation, he said, is a trend that must be sustained and any attempt to block it is a step backwards.
President Xi stressed that innovation is the key to strong growth in the global economy. He encouraged the sharing of scientific and technological advances, especially among developing countries, and improving global economic governance. He added that economic cooperation should be based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
Xi also said that real development means a more equal distribution of wealth and opportunity, not only within countries but also between different classes and communities. He said the Asia-Pacific region should continue to be the locomotive of economic globalisation.
Xi Jinping affirmed that China will continue to pursue reforms that will boost its modernisation and provide a strong momentum to the global economy. China will also focus on quality development, green transformation and opening-up, which is expected to positively impact not only Asia but the whole world.
