China's President Xi Jinping on Monday unveiled China's eight key steps for global development aimed at fighting hunger and poverty at the first session of the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
- High quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative: China continues to build the multi-sectoral "Belt and Road" interconnection, focusing on the green and digital Road Route, with new investment worth 780 billion yuan ($96.7 billion).
- Implementation of the Global Development InitiativeA: China continues to support developing countries, focusing on 1,100 projects and $20 billion to support poverty, food security and the digital economy.
- Supporting Africa's development: China will offer 360 billion yuan ($49.7 billion) for projects aimed at modernizing Africa over the next three years.
- Promoting international cooperation in the fight against poverty and food security: China joins the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and hosts the International Conference on Food Loss and Waste.
- Open Science Initiative: China, together with Brazil, South Africa and the African Union, proposes an initiative to improve access to scientific, technological and innovative advances in the Global South.
- Practical cooperation within the G20A: China promotes cooperation in clean energy, bioeconomy and digitalization of education and museums.
- Implementation of the G20 Anti-Corruption PlanA: China aims to strengthen cooperation on refugee repatriation and asset recovery.
- Openness towards LDCsA: China will provide 100% duty-free access for all LDCs with diplomatic relations and expects its imports from developing countries to exceed $8 trillion by 2030.
The fight against hunger and poverty was the main theme of the Summit and the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty was established.
