BEIJING - On March 6, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, President of the PRC and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, visited members of the 14th Session of the 4th National Congress of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from the Democratic Peasants and Workers League of China (Nonggongdang), the 9th September Society, and representatives from the health, welfare and social security sectors. He attended a joint meeting of the groups to listen to their views and suggestions. He stressed that building a Healthy China by 2035 is an important strategic decision made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The period of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) is a key stage to achieve this goal, so it is necessary to systematically plan the process, accelerate its implementation and strive to make decisive progress.
On the occasion of the upcoming International Women's Day (8. Xi Jinping, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, extended his holiday greetings and best wishes to the women deputies, members of the Consultative Assembly and female staff members participating in this year's „Two Sessions“ (CPPCC and SCSL), to all women of different ethnic groups and professions throughout China, to women in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and to Chinese compatriots living abroad. Members of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Huning, Chairman of the CPPCC, and Cai Qi, Head of the Office of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the meeting and discussion.
At the joint meeting, six members of the Consultative Assembly - Wang Lu, Ma Xiuzhen, Lu Ke, Jiang Jiandong, Basang Zhuoma and Liu Qifang - spoke on topics such as implementing the „health first“ strategy, raising the level of basic medical services, promoting the development of innovative medicines, strengthening research in material technology, preventing and treating altitude sickness and developing public charity. On this occasion, Xi Jinping, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee, extended sincere greetings to the members and representatives of these sectors.
Xi Jinping pointed out that in the past year, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference has actively made suggestions, for example, in planning the 15th Five-Year Plan, contributing to the further development of the work of the Party and the state. Representatives from Nonggongdang, the 9th September Society, the health sector and the social security sector have been actively participating in the management of public affairs and service to society, bringing new results in the process of building a Healthy China and improving people's living standards.
He stressed that building a Healthy China must be based on the country's real conditions, such as the large population size and the significant disparities between regions and between urban and rural areas, and it is necessary to unwaveringly pursue the path of developing health and healthcare with Chinese characteristics and consistently implement the New Era Healthcare Policy. In view of the increasing and diversified demand for healthcare among the population, efforts should be concentrated in particular on improving the public healthcare system, building a quality and efficient healthcare service system and promoting a healthy and civilized lifestyle.
The Chinese president also stressed the need to establish a working structure based on unified leadership of Party committees and joint responsibility of the Party and the government, improve the health promotion policy system, deepen the coordinated reform of the health care, health insurance and pharmaceutical sectors, promote the transfer of scientific and technological innovation results into practice, and develop digital and intelligent health care for all. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen party construction in the health sector, develop professional talents and promote high ethical standards in the medical profession.
Xi Jinping concluded by saying that building a Healthy China requires the joint efforts of the whole society. He expressed his hope that the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will continue to fully utilize its role as a dedicated platform for discussion and that experts in relevant fields will use their professional knowledge to contribute their wisdom and strength to building a Healthy China.
